6th April 2023

Weather: WNW force 4    drizzle at first.

A quiet day with the wind in the north west, there were still some records of migrants however. Two Chiffchaffs were here and a Sand Martin passed through, with other records of 2 White Wagtails and 6 Goldfinches. Dunlin featured again at high tide, 1,600 flew about.

Only 1,500 Oystercatchers were logged, a few will always be present even in summer, Knot numbered 500, Sanderling 40, Turnstone 20 and Redshank 20, there were 4 Purple Sandpipers seen (there may be more) and 10 Curlew were feeding around the shore.

A sea watch is a must during these present high tides, todays log revealed 2 Red-throated Divers,  4 Gannets, 8 Great Crested Grebes, 6 Guillemots, 60 Common Scoter, and 2 Sandwich Terns. No Eiders present today but 4 Goosanders were here, also 18 Red-breasted Mergansers and 4 Wigeon, while are 'resident' Mallards were on the pond with another pair at the north end.

Twelve Shelduck were around, possibly also trying to set up home.

A Peregrine was the only raptor and 3 Grey Herons and 2 Little Egrets were on the shore. The Brent still counts about 110 birds, it will be interesting to see how quickly the rest will now disappear. A lovely sunset followed by a moonrise tonight.
