13th October 2023

Weather:   WNW force 6, rain most of the day, clearing late afternoon

A late afternoon visit was made after the persistent rain had finally cleared to sunny intervals. It was hoped a few migrants may have been grounded by the rain last night and were still here. Slightly unexpected but welcome was this Stonechat which was caught in the 'heli' trap.

Three Goldcrests were here, possibly new in but could have been remaining from yesterday, in addition a Redwing which was in the obs garden and a Song Thrush in the pittosporum bush. There was very little time to scour the island, but sightings included about 200 Brent, 85 Shelduck, 8 Little Egrets, 45 Ringed Plover, 65 Turnstone, 82 Redshank, 5 Wrens and 3 Blackbirds.
