31st July 2019

Weather: Wind WNW 5/6. Heavy early rain eased as the day progressed.
With poor weather conditions preventing any passerine movement, a three hour sea watch was undertaken over the high tide. This produced 11 Arctic Skuas, the first of the autumn, including a party of four creating havoc among the terns, three Manx Shearwaters and a Fulmar. There were also six Gannets, 13 Great Crested Grebes, two Razorbill and 150 Common Scoter. Sandwich Tern numbers remain high at 600, with many juveniles including some bearing orange flags from Cemlyn Bay. Nine Little Terns was a good return but only about 20 Common Terns were noted. Three each of Painted Lady and Peacock braved the wind and rain.
Whimbrel are still to be seen.
