9th April 2021

Weather: NNW force 2

A brief visit around midday saw the clouds of the early morning rolling away leaving a clear and sunny day on the island.

Six Sandwich Terns and 3 Little Gulls were not a bad haul for a brief visit such as this. The 2 local Carrion Crows seem to be nest building in the sycamore in Telegraph House garden, while many of the Meadow Pipits are examining the grassy areas (please keep your dogs on a lead).

The drake Eider remains the smartest looking bird about the island.

Ten Purple Sandpipers and 128 Brent (plus 2 dark-bellied) were the same counts as yesterday, so maybe they are an accurate total at the moment. The Purples were as confiding as usual to photographers.

A Peregrine was the only raptor. A Swallow flew past our observer on the way off the island.
