9th April 2026

 Weather: SSW force 3

A good deal quieter this morning after all the excitement of yesterday. No sign of the Sardinian Warbler in the Blackthorn although in past experience of these things it is not impossible that it is skulking somewhere. Grounded arrivals today included 6 Willow Warblers, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Wheatear and a White Wagtail.

Also about and over the island were 27 Goldfinches, 11 Redpolls, 6 Blackbirds, 4 Swallows and 10 Woodpigeons. Rarest bird today was a male Shoveler, not an every day occurance at Hilbre.

Other wildfowl were 150 Brent, 8 Shelduck, 20 Common Scoter, a Red breasted Merganser, a pair of Eider and a male Mallard on the pond. On the sea 130 Sandwich Terns stood out as the most obvious to observers, but singles of Gannet and Razorbill were also present.
A Peregrine showed up as did a Raven.

Ringed: 3 Willow Warblers, 1 Wren.
