18th October 2022

Weather: SE force 3, then E 3,   clear view of Cwm Eigiau and the Carnedd.

There was a small fall of Goldcrests and 6 out of the 9 became ringed. There have been reasonable numbers of goldcrests recently which probably means that the breeding season in Scandinavia was reasonable this year.

A single Wren also joined the club.

A Raven was on the rocks in the lagoon early on but flew towards West Kirby although probably the same bird was around the island later.  A Merlin posed nicely on Wheatear hill.

As did the Kestrel on the SK.  Both raptors discouraging smaller birds from going near the traps. A Chiffchaff was here, and finches predominated over thrushes with 11 Siskin, 6 Goldfinch and 4 Greenfinch. The only thrushes were a Song Thrush and 4 Blackbirds.

About 3 dozen Skylarks passed over, as did a few Meadow Pipits and 6 Pied Wagtails. Accurate counts were 189 Brent, mostly on the north shore, and 168 Redshank in the gutter.
