 Weather: ESE 3,   slight mist down welsh coast,   sunny,  cool wind

 

 

Soon after dawn Pink-footed Geese flew in flocks north out of the estuary, approximately 3,000 were estimated.


 

 There were no migrants in the paddocks first thing, but a little later a Willow Warbler and  4 Chiffchaffs were around.

Three Goldcrests also arrived, and a couple of Woodpigeon flew through rapidly, A small arrival of 5 Swallows and 3 Sand Martins during the morning were the only hirundines, while finches were  3 Redpolls, a Greenfinch and 11 Goldfinches.

 

There were 5 White and a Pied Wagtail. The Red-legged Partridge was seen to fly from Middle Eye to the main island, up to this point we hadn't guessed it had been there at all. Among the Wildfowl the Canada geese that has been around over the last couple of days was standing at the north end,

Only 47 Brent were seen today and altogether there were 6 Shelduck and 2 Mallard on the pond. Not many sea birds today, 35 Common Scoter, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 4 Guillemot and 2 Sandwich Terns. The 4 Eider appeared later in the morning,

 

A Peregrine flew near the north end . The waders on the shore with a Little Egret and 2 Grey Herons were mostly Dunlin (about 2,500), but also 50 Sanderling, 45 Turnstone and 3 Purple Sandpiper. After 3 nights of setting the moth trap without any results at all, the first moth was in it this morning.. a Hebrew Character

As the afternoon warmed up 2 Peacock butterflies were seen in flight. 

Ringed: 3 Linnets, 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Goldcrests.
