Weather: ESE force 3 drizzle soon after dawn, later E then WNW late afternoon in the sunshine.
A very good day for the number of species (51) considering the less than ideal migration conditions over the UK at the moment, although a little rain often does help. Passing visitors in the morning included a Yellow Wagtail ssp, a Goldfinch and 5 Wheatears.
In the paddocks and gardens were 6 Willow Warblers, a male Chiffchaff and a male Whitethroat.
Breeding on the island are 6 Blackbirds, at least 6 Wrens and the usual Linnets Rock Pipits and Meadow Pipits etc, the Tree Pipit however which was trapped and ringed was not planning on staying.
The sea birds were numerous again; no less than 54 Red-throated Divers, 215 Gannets, 35 Great Crested Grebes (below), 25 Guillemots, a Shag, 2 summer plumaged Razorbills and 2 Manx Shearwaters flying west.
From the spectators point of view the 350 Sandwich Terns entertained with their diving for fish.
The most impressive among the waders were the Whimbrel which have suddenly increased to 23 birds today.
Seven Curlew were also noted.
Seventy Dunlin fed about the shore and a late Purple Sandpiper was here. A large increase in Little Egrets today when 11 were logged. The 2 Brent still hung about and quite a few other wildfowl made the list today; 45 Common Scoter, 8 Shelduck, 6 Red-breasted Merganser, a male Goosander, a Greylag Goose flying east and 3 Teal going south. Four Harbour Porpoise swam as viewed from the island.
