10th May 2018

Weather:WNW force 5
A strong north westerly is not very helpful at this time of year, and so it proved.
The only small migrant was a Chiffchaff in the paddocks and a classic Hilbre 'migrant' in the form of a Collared Dove that flew into the island, joining the pair of breeding Pied Wagtails.

The sea is the place to look for birds in these conditions and patience was rewarded with records of 400 Sandwich Terns, 150 Common Terns, 12 Little Terns, 55 Gannets, 10 Guillemots, 2 Red-throated Divers, 20 Common Scoter, 3 Kittiwakes and 12 Manx Shearwaters.
About 1,000 Dunlin were around, probably on passage north, 2 Whimbrel and 6 Ringed Plover were also noted.

The obs chairman showed the Green Flag judges around the building and described the work that we do.
