15th August 2024

 Weather: SSW force 3

A short visit over a low tide was made despite the expectation of there being little about, most of the waders roosting away from the islands and the wind wrong for migrants. There were 70 Ringed Plover on the Reef and 52 Curlew feeding on the both sides of the Gutter.

On the rocks around the island were 5 Whimbrel.

Thirty eight Shelduck flew into the estuary with a dozen of them coming down at the head of the Gutter to feed. Seventy Ringed Plover and a few Redshanks were in the gutter just 11 counted.

A look at the sea produced a Gannet, 340 Sandwich, 2 Common and 64 Little Terns. Nine Eiders were here. Among the resident birds a Robin showed well today.
