22nd August 2024

Weather: SW force 6     moderating 4 later

A strong south westerly this morning encouraged some sea watching. Seven Arctic Skuas gave some entertainment to members as they were seen chasing the terns (445 Sandwich Terns and just 2 Common seen). Other records from the sea watch were 3 Manx Shearwaters, 4 Gannets, 2 Great Crested Grebes, a Kittiwake and 24 Scoter. At the high tide, 310 Ringed Plovers, 250 Dunlin and 30 Sanderling were on the rocks behind the lifeboat station. They were joined by a couple of cormorants.

Three Little Egrets, 3 Whimbrel and 8 Eiders were around the islands. Members enjoyed watching a Kestrel pounce on a frog and then eat it in the obs BBQ.

A Skylark paid us a visit.
